WHAT ARE STEM CELLS?

Stem cells are the body’s raw materials — cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated. WHAT IS STEM CELL THERAPY?

Their importance is key as they must balance the enormous production needs (the average person produces more than 500 billion blood cells every day) to precisely regulate the number of each blood cell type in circulation. This type of stem cell can also be used in what is referred to as plasticity, in which stem cells are turned into another type of stem cell. For instance, a stem cell that produces blood cells can be transformed into a stem cell that produces tissue. No other cell has this remarkable capability to actually switch identities.

MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS (MCS)

Mesenchymal stem cell are stem cells isolated from the connective tissue that surrounds other tissues and organs. They are found in several different places, such as bone marrow, blood and fat cells. MSC’s in themselves do not create new tissue. Rather, they are messengers that signal your body to activate a cascade of cellular functions including the generation of bone, cartilage and fat cells that support the formation of blood and fibrous connective tissue. These cells are sent through the bloodstream to the point of injury which is why they are so successful in repairing and replacing damaged tissue caused by conditions such as age or injury.

WHAT IS PRP?

If the damage is not severe, Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP, can be used to repair the damage. PRP therapy uses your own concentrated blood cells (platelets) to target injuries, inflammation and degenerative disease. The plasma imitates the blood supply in the platelets, allowing them to sense any injury and release growth factor. This process helps the body to signal the deployment of stem cells to the injured area. In this way it stimulates and enhances your body’s natural healing response to reduce pain and improve range of motion.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING STEM CELL THERAPY
